The Muslim Youth Foundation of Southern Kaduna (MYFOSKA), noted with dismay, the highly intensified pressures mounted on both presidential candidates of the major political parties of APC, PDP by certain religious, socio-cultural organizations and individuals on the selection of their running mates where they viewed religion as the only yardstick to be adopted.
In a press statement signed by the group National Secretary, Shu’aibu Dabo Abdullahi, urged the candidates to remain focused and not to be succumbed and destabilized by the pressures mounted on them by some mischievous elements and groups who want to polarize the promising population along religious and tribal lines.
“We hereby want to make our position known, that the selection, either by the presidential and Kaduna State Governorship candidates of All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) or any other political party should be done based on merit, credibility, capacity and competence rather than religion and be left to the electorates, who are the ultimate judges to elect who they like in the general election. There should no group or individual that would have the mandate to impose a running mate on any candidate.” Said the statement
The group expressed that Kaduna state and the country are in dire need of leaders who will unite its citizens and have the political will to arrest and overcome the security challenges bedeviling the nation.
“We need the leaders that are ready to sacrifice their comforts for our wellbeing and leaders that have a vision for the country not religious bigots who see nothing good in other peoples’ faith.” Added the statement
They promised to engage and support candidates that are ready to entrench justice, fairness and equity based on merit and competence.
